Sociology and Heart Disease



Questions
Question one
A social class is a group of people with/of similar status and have comparable levels of power and wealth. Social class is a cultural phenomena as it can have an influence on a person’s behavior and identity. Social class as a structural phenomena arises as a result of interaction and imtergration of people.
Social structure refers to the group in which a person lives and interact while cultural structure on the other hand refers to the total of beliefs, values and practices that common in any population.
Question 2
A sociologist will consider the relationship between socio-economic  status and prevalence of heart disease .A sociologist will also look at the prevalence rates of heart disease among the different social classes on the society especially in relation on how they behave and interact. The attitude of the society towards heart disease is also key.
Question 3
Socially constructed refers to humans rationalizing their experience by creating models of the real world,meaning it originates cultivated by the society. Defiance is socially constructed as it is going against the social norms that are created by the society which in essence might be different from society to society.
Question 4
Racial stratification refers to system of inequality where race is used as the criteria for ranking social positions and their rewards. Stratification systems begin with a difference as it occurs when members in a social group are treated, rewarded or punished equally.
Question 5
Personal trouble occurs on an individual level while public issues threaten the collective interest of the society. I experience being an employed as a personal trouble but considering the large number of fellow students and recent graduate who are unemployed I believe it is a public issue.
Question 6
The best aspect of culture that changed over time is dressing and fashion in general. For example a while back it was rare to see ladies wearing trousers but nowadays it has become very common.
Question 7
An example of individual explanation to low graduation rates at CCP is individuals spending more time sleeping instead of studying and doing research. Sociologically it can be attributed to individuals interacting for social functions such as parties, movies and playing video games.
Question 8
This American attitude can be attributed to the difference in culture. It simply means that what is believed to be the norm and what is right in one society might not be the norm, belief or what is considered right in another.
Question 9
The litter in Philadelphia can be explained through the functionalism perspective which looks at the relationship between parts of the society and contributes  to society functioning as a whole. Thus others will litter because other people are also doing the same.
Question 10
One of the forces that might be influencing her choice of clothes might be the family. The parents might be strict or from a religious background than only allow a certain way of dressing.the second force that might be influencing her clothing is the economic forces where by she can only dress based on what she can afford.
